Rail vacations in Canada have long held a glamorous reputation, and the charm certainly hasn’t diminished in more recent years. Let images of domed viewing cars, cozy bunks and gourmet meals fill your mind as we take you through the Rocky Mountains, along the East Coast and over to the Maritimes. Of course, a classic rail vacation wouldn’t be complete without world-class accommodation. Canada’s prestigious Fairmont Hotels were built as early as 1893 by the Canadian Pacific Railway company, and their reputations have only become more iconic over time. There are 19 Fairmont hotels spread out across the country –11 in Western Canada, one in Winnipeg and seven in Eastern Canada—and a stay in at least one is essential for any classic rail vacation. My husband and I would like to join the train in Toronoto. We want to take it to Vancouvor. We would like to sleep on the train some time and get off the train for at least two nights in some towns. Is this possible? We want to be on our own when we are off the train. How do we put this together. We are looking at mid Sept 2022. How early should we book the train? Thank you

The rocky mountaineer trains leave super early, right? And if you sleep on the Via across canada what does it cost with a private bathroom?

My husband and I are considering a trip in April 2025. We would like to travel from Vancouver to Whistler and Jasper and then on to Toronto. What would be the fare By VIA Rail and what is the cancellation policy. I have read of negative reviews where there are no refunds for cancellation for whatever reason A credit will not help us as we live in Australia and will not return to Canada in a hurry. Any information will be most helpful and appreciated Many thanks Regina
