Travel Designer

Born and raised in England, Charlene started her travel career 16 years ago booking flights and working as an airline hostess.

Since becoming a Canada & Alaska travel specialist in 2014, she has experienced many of the wonderful delights that both Canada & Alaska have to offer.

This includes a winter carnival trip to Quebec City, a fall road trip in the Yukon (the colours were spectacular!) and a combined Road, Rail and Boat trip to Alaska during the summer where she was lucky enough to see the bears of Katmai National Park.

In Spring of 2019, Charlene and her family officially moved to Ontario, now exploring this beautiful and diverse country at every given opportunity.

What is your favorite Canadian Rail Tour?

I love the "Winter Snow Train to the Rockies" package for its magical 'winter wonderland' appeal. That feeling you get when passing through the snow-covered forests and mountains is very different from travel in the summer months. If you're traveling in November/December, I highly recommend staying two nights in Vancouver to indulge in the Christmas markets, ice skating rinks and Christmas light displays.

On VIA Rail from Vancouver to Jasper, sit back, relax and take in the beautiful scenery. Enjoy a meal in the dining car and return to your cabin to find it converted into a cozy bedroom. The next morning, wake to the majestic Canadian Rockies as you arrive into Jasper. Spend your day on a Maligne Canyon Ice Walk, wildlife tour or dog sledding!

Day 4 has a truly spectacular show for you as you travel along the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise. Make sure to have your camera ready for the countless photo ops!

Lake Louise and Banff will not disappoint with skiing, shopping, snowshoeing, ice skating or a relaxing time at the spa. My personal favorite is dog sledding, as you can let someone else do the mushing whilst you embrace the stillness of the snow-covered forest.

What is your favorite rail tour in Alaska?

The "Canadian Rockies & Alaska Ultimate Train Adventure" is my favorite. The perfect time to travel is from May – September for the warm summer weather, abundant wildlife and photo opportunities with snowy mountain backdrops and sparkling glacial lakes.

Following your city break in metropolitan Vancouver, embark on a memorable rail journey through the Rockies. As you arrive into Jasper for your 2 night stay I highly recommend a trip on the Jasper SkyTram. Here you can enjoy views from the summit without having to hike too far, plus you can soak up the sights from the restaurant.

Over the next 4 days in the Rockies the adventure continues with glaciers, wildlife, waterfalls and many other beautiful sights and sounds.

Flying into Fairbanks you can take a trip on the Sternwheeler and explore the gateway to the Arctic. If you love to experience different landscapes and scenery, the 12 hour Arctic Circle Fly/Drive Adventure is great. You'll experience the Arctic Tundra by road and air, and get your very own certificate once you've crossed the Arctic Circle.

The Alaska Railroad from Fairbanks to Denali is super relaxing, and ends with a Denali Backcountry Tour. A 92-mile road of pure wilderness awaits with opportunities to see tons of wildlife and Mount Denali. Whilst at Denali Lodge, I recommend taking the nature walk to learn more about the landscape and history of the park. When you leave, you'll catch a flight back to the park’s entrance so pack your camera and binoculars!

Back on Alaska Railroad for another adventure, next up is Talkeetna. This is such a charming little town and completely different to the other areas you will have experienced.

Finally, the Glacier Cruise in Prince William Sound is the very first place I saw humpback whales breach right in front of my eyes. Pair that with towering glaciers and icebergs floating past and you have a truly incredible experience.
