Canada - Endless beauty from a train window.

I thought I could visit friends in Toronto after seeing my daughter in NYC and, knowing nothing about Toronto googled ‘what to do’ there. The first thing that came up was an ad from Canada Rail Vacations about travelling by train to the Rockies. My immediate thought was ‘yes!’ I liked their proposed itinerary and loved every day of the trip. Via Rail from Toronto to Jasper offered wonderful views, companionable and delicious meals, and a cosy cabin. The amount of water - lakes, rivers, waterfalls - is just about incomprehensible to we Australians and nurtured my spirit. Interesting late night stop at Winnipeg - behind the station is the magnificent Human Rights Museum - wonderful to know it even exists. The hotel stays and wildlife tours in Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff gave me a good introduction to the magnificent Rockies, and all the arrangements fell into place well. The Rocky Mountaineer trip to Vancouver was a dreamlike experience. Travelling by train offers so much more than flying-in-flying-out, and crossing beautiful Canada’s waterways, rocky shield, prairies and mountains was uplifting.

We really enjoyed our tour

of eastern Canada with Canada Rail Vacations. Andre was very helpful and responsive to questions as we researched and booked the tour. There was a good combination of scheduled tours and free time to explore on our own. This is not a tour where you travel with one large group and guide the whole time. We liked that it was more like traveling on our own but with hotels, train, and some (not all) transportation was pre-planned.

We are back again from a wonderful trip in the Rockies. Everything was great! The Fairmont hotels we loved it. We had wonderful rooms in each hotel, the bus transfers very good arranged. We enjoyed our trips - snowshoeing, ice canyon walk, sleigh-ride, is was all fantastic! I was happily surprised with the informative travel documents with the lonely planet guide that we received on arrival in the Banff Springs hotel. The ENTIRE trip was seamless and went off without a hitch. I cannot say enough good things about Andre, our Senior Travel Designer, who helped us every step of the way.

To celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, my wife and I just took the Canadian Rockies Rail Winter Escapades trip, with the VIA Rail Prestige class and upgraded Fairmont hotel options. First of all, he wanted to understand the purpose of our trip and if we had been to these locations before. He also ensured the hotels knew this was a celebration trip.
