This popular 7-day itinerary combines time on the award-winning Rocky Mountaineer train with an Ice Explorer Ride onto the Athabasca Glacier and sightseeing in beautiful Banff National Park and Sonora Resort.
Keep your eyes open for wildlife, as you are likely to see whales, seals, sea otter, elk, bears and bald eagles.

Departing Vancouver|Departing Calgary
Day 1 Vancouver to Sonora Resort | Helicopter This afternoon transfer by helicopter or float plane to Sonora Resort on beautiful Sonora Island. The island is an absolute jewel amidst the wild beauty and pristine waters of British Columbia’s West Coast. After your arrival, get settled and explore the resort before you enjoy a delicious Pacific Northwestern gourmet dinner (Included).
Days 2 Sonora Resort Sonora Resort is not only a Relais & Chateaux luxury resort, with its stunning setting among towering trees, postcard views and the background music of waves lapping the shoreline, it also allows you to reconnect with nature. Take an optional guided eco boat tour, see grizzly bears, kayak, go rafting, hike the coastal rainforest or try heli-hiking. Fishing is one of the key experiences at the resort, with heli-fly-fishing, river fly-fishing and salmon fishing available. You’ll experience five star accommodations, an extraordinary level of attention and service, and breathtaking outdoor adventures. Day 3 Sonora Resort to Vancouver | Helicopter Your stay at Sonora Resort ends when you depart after lunch It’s time to say good-bye after lunch to British Columbia’s coastal wilderness and take the helicopter or floatplane back to Vancouver. (Breakfast included today)
Day 4 Vancouver to Kamloops | Rocky Mountaineer All aboard Rocky Mountaineer for the scenic rail journey to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. Pass through the rich fields of the Fraser River Valley and the towering peaks of the Coastal Mountains before entering the Fraser Canyon. Follow the Thompson River through spectacular landscapes to historic Kamloops. (Breakfast & lunch is included today)
Day 5 Kamloops to Jasper | Rocky Mountaineer Back onboard the Rocky Mountaineer follow the Thompson River through rolling plateaus to the snowy peaks of the Monashee Mountains. View Pyramid Falls and the expansive glaciers of the Albreda Icefields. Pass by Mount Robson, at 3954 metres, which is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Arrive in Jasper late afternoon. (Breakfast & lunch is included today)
Day 6 Jasper to Banff | Sightseeing with picnic lunch Your sightseeing tour today will encompass the ultimate glacier exploration as you travel along the spectacular Icefields Parkway. From walking on ancient ice at the Glacier Adventure (included), to standing on a glass platform almost one thousand feet in the air at the Glacier Skywalk (included), to-day’s experiences will leave you with a special appreciation for this treasured region of the Rockies. (picnic lunch included today)
Day 7 Banff to Calgary | Morning Sightseeing + Gondola This morning explore the natural wonders near the town of Banff on this half-day, small-group tour. Admire the unparalleled beauty of natural sights including Bow Falls, the surreal Hoodoos rock formation, and beautiful Lake Minnewanka, among others. Then Maximize your views of Banff National Park with minimal exertion during this round-trip gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain. Much too soon you leave the fresh mountain air and colourful sights of the Rockies. We will schedule an afternoon transfer that brings you to Calgary Airport to connect with your flight or to downtown Calgary.
Day 1 Calgary to Banff | Banff Sightseeing + Gondola Depart downtown Calgary and travel west through the rolling foothills with the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the horizon. Upon arrival into Banff you will visit such points as Bow Falls, Surprise Corner, and the Hoodoo rock formations, before a stop at the Banff Gondola. At the top of Sulphur Mountain spectacular views await from the 360 degree observation deck. Complete the day with a historical tour of Lake Minnewanka on the Lake Minnewanka Cruise. (Please note: Lake Minnewanka Cruise is only included on Calgary departures)

Day 3 Jasper to Kamloops | Rocky Mountaineer All aboard Rocky Mountaineer for a scenic rail journey to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. Leaving Jasper National Park, travel the ‘Yellowhead’ route past the sprawling grandeur of Mount Robson ‘the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies and follow the mighty Thompson River, the route of early fur traders, before arriving in Kamloops. (Breakfast & lunch is included today)
Day 4 Kamloops to Vancouver | Rocky Mountaineer Leaving Kamloops, follow the Thompson River through Ashcroft, one of Canada’s driest towns, with an average rainfall of just 18 centimetres. Pass through Rainbow Canyon, named for its cliffs striped with pinks, greens and greys creating a stunning rainbow effect. Continue on to the Fraser Canyon, where at Hell’s Gate watch water torrent past the canyon walls at its narrowest point. The last leg of the journey takes you through the fertile farming region of the Fraser Valley to arrive in the Pacific port of Vancouver late afternoon. (Breakfast & lunch is included today)
